DFA is designed to affect real social change. We don’t want to just talk about problems—we want to solve them. And we do it while having fun, learning new things, building connections, and developing as leaders and individuals. DFA members participate in everything from projects to networking events and leadership conferences to socials.
Following the DFA design process, students identify, challenge, and work to solve problems in our local community. With topics that range all over the board, this is where real world change happens. See some of our past projects here.
As much as we love changing the world, we make sure to never forget how important it is to have fun and grow with friends! Some of our favorite things to do as a studio include bowling, laser tag, potlucks, escape games, and just hanging out and enjoying each others’ company.
DFA students are exposed to connections across the nation. Members attend local professional events, company visits, and are welcomed into an alumni network that spans the world. DFA’ers have made new friends, contacts, and even received co-op and job offers from DFA connections.
DFA UC students can participate in two national events: Leadership Studio, a 5-day challenge design to stretch students’ design innovation and leadership skills, and Midwest Meetup, a weekend fully student-organized where midwest studios come together to learn, connect, grow, and have a blast!
DFA’s commitment to interdisciplinary design means we never miss an opportunity to learn from each other and experts in our community. We often host speakers to inspire new insights and jump at the chance to share our strengths with our fellow studio members.
We believe that the only way to change the world is with a mindset of empathy and collaboration. Our studio partners with individuals and organizations in our community to identify pain points, immerse ourselves in the problem, and prototype, test, and iterate on solutions.
